Plagiarism is considered as unethical practices in academics, which is highly discouraged by

the universities all around the globe. While doing your dissertation you must be cautious about

plagiarism. Plagiarism is easily detectible from various software the most popular one is Turnitin

which is fairly easy to use can be installed by the student in order to check of their work is free

from plagiarism. There are very strict repercussions in case a student is found copying the

content from other sources this may result in failure and you might have to do dissertation all

over again. In this guide I have mentioned the basic mistakes that student make while writing

dissertation or research paper, which you must avoid.

1. Copy and pasting the content from other source word for word in your dissertation is

plain wrong. It is considered as plagiarizing verbatim which is supposed to the ownership

of another author. If you want to use some else’s work there are some correct ways to

that.

a. You should give credit to the author / writer by using correct format of in text

citation and referencing (bibliography). You can search the referencing style

guide online depending on the requirement of your Nursing dissertation help for instance APA,

MLA, and Harvard so on. Always search for a updated one.

b. If you want to use the entire paragraph written by another author you can quote it

in inverted commas and cite it properly.

c. Second way is to paraphrase it, which means read the content thoroughly and

write in your own words. You cannot copy paste any line directly unless you use

inverted commas for it.

2. Some students try to play smart and they mix multiple sources and change a couple of

words, please remember that the plagiarism software are smarter than you and it can

detect a part of plagiarized content. However, the correct way to do is copy and paste

the content from the sources you would to use than read through, write the paragraph in

consolidated form, and do not forget to cite the author. Referencing guides do provides

ways to cite different authors work in one paragraph.

3. Most of the students believe that changing synonyms would to the trick of fooling the

software, in fact this is wrong. You must keep in mind that changing synonyms can

change the entire meaning of the content. Here comes in the need of composition and

vocabulary. If you want to use synonym find the one that has the closest possible

meaning, for some synonym you might have to use the structure of your sentence,

therefore it should be used very carefully.

4. If you do not have access to the plagiarism software as it is not free, here is a trick,

which you can use. As you keep adding or writing the sentences in your dissertation

Google the segments of sentences. This search engine can also be used as your

plagiarism tester, which can help you reduce 95% of the plagiarized error. Although, it is time-consuming but it can save you from a lot of trouble.
